Be Calm, Observe, and be Critical
What actually is going on in the world? What is reality? Are these one and the same thing?
People tend to overestimate their powers of perception. When they step back from their own reality in an effort to see what actually is going on in the world, however, does this fill them with joy or, conversely, give them a feeling of discomfort or dissatisfaction? Buddhist meditation exists in various forms, but is it meant to be practised in order to achieve happiness? And what of Buddhism itself, is it a means for people to achieve happiness? Here, we explore Buddhism and meditation from the perspective of a Zen monk.
